China FDD LTE License Expected to be Launched in Fourth Quarter

The user survey on three operators’ 4G brand shows that, up to the early morning on May 17th, more than 50% users prefer not to use 4G service, while there have no huge differences among operators in the aspect of 4G brand popularity. 62% users express their wish that 4G tariff could depreciate; mobile data traffic price could be reduced wished by 60.7% users. three operators’ cost strategies, the traffic expenses have already become the new hotspot for telecom operators to scramble for users.

Recently, China Mobile Communication Corporation (CMCC) adjusted 4G expenses for the second time with more than 50% reduction. Following, China Unicom released its new promotion policy——10 RMB at minimum for 1GB data of half year package.

“At the moment, the competition among three operators has become incandesced on data expense. Without the launching of FDD license and with no publish announcement of China Telecom’s tariff, the real battle among three operators’ 4G has not started yet.” One person of telecom told reporter.

According to CMCC’s operating statistics of April in 2014, during the month, CMCC 4G subscribers have net increased to 2.005 million and total 4G subscribers 4.798 million. The net increased 3G and 4G subscribers of China Unicom are 2.11 million, which are the lowest since this year. The first quarter report of China Telecom shows, that the net mobile subscribers have decreased 2.38 million.

Telecom industry senior analyst, Fu Liang says, “Without the launching of FDDLTE license, real battle among three operators’ 4G has not started yet.” the nowadays situation, FDD license is likely to be launched at the end of the year. 4G penetration rate has not reached one percent, which has little effect on whole market, thus it would have to be put off to the fourth quarter to let more people change into 4G voluntarily.

“4G TD-LTE license has been launched less than half a year actually. Three operators are still making the previous preparations and the network construction is not mature.” Fu Liang says, on CMCC 4G users penetration rate, less than one percent with 4 million among 700 million users of CMCC. Despite the rapid growth, 3%-5% market share is supposed to gained in this year fourth quarter.
