At the second IMT-2020(5G) summit meeting recently, China 5G Promotion Group (IMT-2020(5G) Promotion Group) proposes that, equipped with the ability to connect billions even hundreds of billions devices together, 5G technology is expected to satisfy the increasing need of thousands of times of traffic data of 2020 and the future than today, providing the users with the same accessing speed as the optical fiber.

As 4G/LTE technology develops into the era of large scale commercial operation, the Fifth Generation Mobile Communication (5G) designed to meet the need of 2020 and future commercial operation, has become the research highlight in global industry. IMT-2020(5G) Promotion Group is jointly established in February 2013, by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology, of which members consists of main outstanding scholars in the national mobile communication industry, posing a principal platform to promote the research of 5G technology in China and international communication and cooperation.

Huang Yuhong, the vice director of China Mobile Research Institute, behalf of the Promotion Group, released the first 5G White Paper of the group—Chinese and English version of “White Paper on the Prospect and Need of 5G”. The White Paper points out, in 2020 and future, 5G technology will be able to offer the users with the accessing speed as optical fiber, the “No delay” delay experience, ability to connect with hundreds of billions of devices, the super high density of connection amount and mobility and other multi-scene consistent service, the intelligent optimization of user perceptive, meanwhile, it will bring forth more than hundreds times of energy efficiency elevation and bit cost cuts.

So far, the recognized key technologies in 5G field are: the hyper-dense network, large scale antenna array, non-orthogonal transmission, high frequency communication, C-RAN, Software Defined Network (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Content Delivery Network (CDN) are considered as the potential key technologies of 5G.
