The fifth generation of the G-Cloud framework has moved into the data center with new offerings such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) adding a hardware element to the previously cloud only service catalogue.

The G-Cloud catalogue of cloud services to the public sector now accounts for £175 million in sales, according to Home Office figures.

Around 80% of that value stems sales of cloud services to central government, with the wider public sector accounting for 20%, it reports.

Two G-Cloud vendors have extended the range of services in anticipation of further growth in demand for services as the public sector warms to the idea of cost savings through managed services.

Early pioneer of G-Cloud, Softcat, has announced three more vendor partners in its managed service portfolio, with AirTight, Becrypt and Egress products to be sold through its catalogue.

Softcat has tendered to supply two of the newest offerings included in G-Cloud 5: IaaS and software as a service (SaaS).

With so many players in the G-Cloud market Softcat is determined to increase its stake in the G-Cloud framework said its public sector frameworks manager, Andy Bruen.

“Every year at every new phase of the G-Cloud framework we expand our offering because we want to keep strengthening our foothold on this lucrative framework,” said Bruen.

Public sector customers are becoming aware of the cost and resource saving benefits of G-Cloud, he said.

“We’re already talking to several vendors for inclusion on the next phase of the G-Cloud framework scheduled for November,” said Bruen.

The new offerings include both networking and IaaS, with Softcat supplying AirTight’s cloud wireless solution and Becrypt’s secure remote-access product.

Meanwhile, systems integrator AIT has had its physical infrastructure management (PIM) services accepted into the governments G-Cloud framework.

AIT’s PIMs helps IT teams to map their power and network cabling infrastructure and assets and is delivered via Amazon web services.

It helps companies to monitor their energy use and environmental conditions through capacity and asset management, heat maps, workflow and reporting dashboards.

Now government will be able to buy its data center infrastructure management services the G Cloud catalogue and various cloud store market, said AIT’s marketing manager Tim Daniels.
