Cable & Wireless Communications has named U.S. telco executive Perley McBride as its new chief financial officer as it moves more of its business across the pond.

The U.K.-based telco, which has operations primarily in Central America and the Caribbean, said McBride will take up his new role on 23 June.

Most recently, McBride served as CFO of U.S. mobile operator Leap Wireless, which was acquired by AT&T in March. Prior to that he was EVP of finance for The Weather Company, and held various positions at U.S. telcos Frontier Communications and Sprint.

"We have set out our new strategy to return this business to growth, and Perley’s knowledge and experience of both fixed and mobile operations will be crucial in delivering on this commitment," said Cable & Wireless chief executive Phil Bentley, in a statement.

"He has strong relationships with U.S. investors and banks and a track record of improving operating efficiency," Bentley added.

Meanwhile, McBride said he is "delighted" to join Cable & Wireless.

"CWC is entering a new phase, with a new operating hub in Miami, a major investment plan and clear strategy to deliver growth," he said.

Cable & Wireless parted company with its previous CFO in February. Tim Pennington left to take on the finance chief role at Millicom.
